2012: A year full of ( overrated ) entertainment

Royal weddings, South Korean dance passes, nasty break ups, reality stars getting overpaid for the art of doing absolutely nothing, studs on every piece of clothing or shoo, A new trilogy full of hobbits, monsters and more groosness, Ipads, and more things that are completely overrated.

Did you or did you not practiced the Gangnam Style in front of your mirror? Did you?
Whether you did or not ( and I know you did ) It’s ok, referring to Gangnam Style was the most popular video on You Tube this year. Seriously, where is it going with the musical taste of this generation?! Luckily there were also new artists who can actually sing and make music. Like One Direction and Carly Rea Jepsen. ( What the F*ck?! ) No seriously, not fond of either one of them. The records I couldn’t stop listening to this year where Babel by Mumford and Sons, Be you own cheerleader by Rachel louise, Every kingdom by Ben Howard, Mylo Xyloto by Coldplay and Hurry up, We’re dreaming by M83.

The film Intouchables. With more than 19 million visitors world wide the film was one of the most best visited films of this year. Was it the sense of humor, the movement or just the fact that we needed a different kind of film to see then we have for the past ten years? The same or possibly even more visitors and appreciation went to Skyfall. Men around the world reconsidered their jobs once again picturing the dream of being a Bond, James Bond. Hey, I hear y’all. It would be cool.

My personal highlight of entertainment was Coldplay (like duh, For the people who know me  ). They nailed it completely with their world tour this year. They seem to understand a few things very well: writing songs that don’t necessarily tell a story, never make it sound cheesy, naming their records that is for so many people hard to pronounce and by that making sure that if you type that record name into Google, they are basically the only hit, knowing that nothing else is named the same way. These four men somehow stayed pretty normal and never bothered us with anything else but with that what they do best.

The trend on fashion area. Or at least the kind of fashion trends that girls like me can actually afford. The massive standard kind. Didn’t all the girls looked amazing this year being totally dressed in studs? They were everywhere. Purse, check. Shoo, check. Jacket, check. And so on. At least if you go along with the massive fashion trends. But I like it. Makes us look tough. About the Timberlands everybody, they can go. They make feet look huge.

2012 was also the year I realized I’m done with the ‘ party scene’ in Utrecht. I guess I kind of grew out of it. To small, to many cocky college boys and girls, too much of the same. I found the new place to party, although it’s been a party city over years: Berlin, Baby. It just never stops. People walking around the streets with beer in their hands, the best techno music, the city looks like a festival territory. And of course all the history that this city holds. Also great for shopping and important for us Duchties, not so expensive! If you haven’t been there before, do it in 2013!

So far, guys. What were your entertainment highlights?
Xoxo, joey
